Croatia is the last Country of the current Presidency Trio to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1st until June 30th of 2020, taking it over from the Trio partners Romania, the first Country of the Trio and Finland as the second that held the Presidency.
In the area of European statistics the Presidency Trio Romania – Finland – Croatia focuses on provision of high quality and relevant European statistics produced in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2009 on European statistics and guided by the European Statistics Code of Practice. Emerging challenges resulting from development of data sources, new metrics and ways of communication are taken into account.
The Croatian Presidency will follow its predecessors in fostering actions for modernisation of the European Statistical System underpinning its sustainable and balanced development and in particular, development of statistical products and services to be provided as a response to the new user needs. In that context, the event planned and organised by the Croatian Presidency in cooperation with Eurostat should provide an opportunity to the leadership of the European Statistical System to continue discussing statistical implications of globalisation, as a phenomenon behind a spectrum of economic and social changes. The event is scheduled for 24th – 25th of March 2020 in Zagreb and should take a format of an informal workshop for the heads of the National Statistical Institutes of the European Statistical System and Eurostat.
The agenda of the Croatian Presidency of the Working Party on Statistics is built on the progress of Finnish, Romanian and other preceding Presidencies. Following achievements of the Finnish Presidency, Croatian Presidency is ready to undertake necessary procedural steps to finalise dealings regarding proposal for amending Regulation (EC) No 862/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Community statistics on migration and international protection.
In addition, the Croatian Presidency of the Working Party on Statistics is going to continue the cooperation with COMPCRO Working Party regarding Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the Programme for single market, competitiveness of enterprises, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and European statistics.
Croatian Presidency will make every effort to use this period productively and shall advance relevant discussions to the fullest extent possible cooperating closely and in a transparent manner with the Member States, the Trio Partners, the European Parliament and the Commission.
